Laser
Hair Removal |
|
Clinical studies have
shown no other laser system works better than the Light Sheer
Space XC for permanent hair removal. A series of five treatments
done at six to eight week intervals are recommended for best
results.
|
| How
Does Hair Grow? |
|
Hair develops from a complex series of interactions between different
elements within the skin. Interestingly, not all hair is actively
growing at the same time. Individual hairs actually go through distinct
phases: growth, regression, and resting. The duration of each phase
is dependent upon several factors, including body location. For example,
at any one time 90% of scalp hair is in the growth (anagen) phase,
compared to only 70% of the hair on our arms. During the regression
(catagen) phase, the surrounding skin begins to absorb the hair
bulb.
Finally, the hair enters the resting (telogen) phase, at the end
of which the hair falls out and the follicle begins the cycle again.
| What
Affects The Appearance Of Body Hair? |
|
Simply put, we believe this is absolutely the best laser available
right now for permanent removal of hair in men and women of all
skin
types. We have selected this laser because of its proven and unmatched
clinical track record in laser hair removal. The long wavelength
of
this system allows even darker skin patients to be treated. This
laser has been approved by the FDA for permanent reduction of hair
in the
treated areas, a claim that virtually no other laser hair removal
system can make.
| How
Does The System Remove Hair? |
|
The light emitted by the LightSheer laser is absorbed by the pigment
located in the hair follicle. The laser is pulsed, or "turned on,"
for only a fraction of a second. The duration of each pulse is just
long enough to disrupt the hair follicle. The LightSheer's unique,
patented contact-cooling hand piece helps protect the skin by cooling
during the laser energy delivery. The diode generated light at 810
nm is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle and this energy
is converted to heat which results in thermal damage to the hair
follicle.
This thermal damage causes delayed re-growth of the hair, and in
some cases permanent destruction of the hair follicle.
| How
do you remove grey/white hair? |
|
We now have a product that the client must apply twice a day for
14-21 days prior to laser treatment. The product ads melanin (color)
to
the hair follicle, not the hair shaft, which attracts the laser light.
The follicle then heats up and is damaged by the heat. With proper
use, 90% hair reduction has been reported after 4 treatments. There
is an additional charge for the product. Each bottle will last for
about 5-6 treatments on an area the size of a face, or 2-4 for an
area the size of a back. Each bottle cost $100 plus tax.
Yes. The LightSheer System was developed from years of research at
the Wellman Laboratories of Photomedicine, one of the world's leading
and most respected medical research institutions. The laser parameters
were carefully defined to inhibit the regrowth of the hair by studying
the anatomy of the hair follicle and precisely matching the laser
output to the size, depth and location of hair follicles. A unique
component of the LightSheer System, the actively-cooled hand piece
was designed to conduct heat away from the skin before, during,
and
after each pulse. The side effect of the laser treatment are a mild
"sun burn" sensation lasting hour to a few days. A lightening of
the skin may occur and is usually temporary, lasting weeks to months.
If you spend a lot of time in the sun, we recommend you wait until
fall.
You may feel a tingling or stinging sensation, and some areas of
the body are more sensitive than others, but most people tolerate
the
procedure well. A topic anestetic is available that works extremely
well.
| How
Many Treatments Will I Need? |
|
The LightSheer laser works by disrupting hairs that are in the active
phase of growth at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will
enter
the growth phase at different times, additional treatments will be
necessary to disable all hair follicles in a given area. Treatments
are usually given at intervals of approximately 4-8 weeks, or whenever
new hair growth is first noticed . Most patients will have four
or
five treatments for maximum removal of all hair. If you spend a lot
of time in the sun, we recommend you wait until fall. We can treat
tanned skin, but, we have to reduce the laser strength causing a
requirement for more treatments. Under arms can be done anytime
as most people
do not tan under the arms.
| Are
The Results Permanent? |
|
We are very happy to announce that the FDA has recently authorized
users of the Coherent LightSheer system to use the word "PERMANENT"
as it pertains to the amount of hair loss in treated areas. This
decision was not made lightly, and only after years of reviewing
statistical
scientific data on the results obtained with LightSheer system. This
is a claim very few other lasers in the world are allowed to use
when
talking about hair removal. No laser on the marker today gets better
results, than the Lightsheer.
| What
Happens After Treatment? |
|
Within several minutes, the treated area may become slightly red and
puffy. This reaction subsides quickly and within a day or so the areas
return to normal. Patients often describe the sensation of a mild
sunburn for the first day or so. Since the LightSheer laser does not
cut the skin, bandages are not necessary and most people return to
normal activity immediately. You should not, however, plan any important
social engagements during the first several days after your treatment,
especially if the treated areas are on the face.
Your doctor
may prescribe a mild topical steroid cream to apply to the treated
areas for 2-3 days following treatment. Around 3-10 days after treatment
you may experience what seems to be hairs re-growing. Most of these
hairs, however, are dead, treated hairs that are being shed and
are not regrowing. You should not wax or pluck your hairs within
two weeks of your next treatment.
| Who
Is A Good Candidate For Laser Hair Removal? |
|
The perfect candidate has dark hair and light skin. Darker hair absorbs
more of the laser light, and lighter skin interferes less with the
movement of the laser light into the hair follicle. Dark or tan skin
runs a higher risk of pigmentation changes following the procedure.
The unique longer wavelength of this laser allows darker skinned patients
to be treated. White hairs respond the least to laser therapy. Hair
is best removed on light skin and dark hair, and will work on Skin
Types I-V. See your skin type below. Now Available MELADINE,
which allows us to remove non-colored hair permanently.
I-Always Burns, Never Tans - White Skin
II-Always Burns, Sometimes Tans -White

VI-Never Burns - Black Skin
| What
Special Instructions Should I Follow After Treatment? |
|
- Do not apply any products on the treated areas of your skin
except sunscreen if you will be outside. Avoid Retin-A, alpha-hydroxy
acids, glycolic acids, astringents, etc. You may wash gently with
soap and water, but do not rub or scrub the area. Your doctor
may prescribe a topical steroid cream to apply to the treatment
areas. Please use this medicine only as directed.
- Do not expose the treatment areas to direct sunlight. Do not
use tanning beds at any time during your treatment intervals with
this laser. Wear a sunscreen daily if the areas to be treated
will be exposed to sunlight.
- 3-7 days after treatment some of the hairs may seem to be re-growing.
This occurs due to elimination of the hair that remained under
the skin and not true re-growth of the hair.
- Do not wax or pluck any hairs within two weeks of next session.
- Do not pick or manipulate the skin in the treatment areas.
| If
I am tan can I get laser hair removal? |
|
If we delay your treatment for a few weeks because we feel you
are too tan, it is because we want the laser procedure to provide
you with the best results for the dollar. Tan skin requires us to
use lower power settings, thus requiring more treatments and costing
you more money.
SmoothBeam |
| What
is the Smoothbeam? |
|
The Smoothbeam laser is a new, non-invasive way to treat wrinkles,
acne scarring and acne.. This laser cools the skin and then delivers
a laser beam which targets and heats the collagen in the upper dermis
while protecting the epidermis. What conditions does Smoothbeam treat?
Smoothbeam is FDA approved to treat wrinkles or fine lines around
the eyes and acne. At Perfect Skin we are using this laser to treat
acne, acne scars, and wrinkles around the eyes and mouth. The laser
helps renew skin by stimulating a generation of new collagen formation
in the skin.
What kind of acne does the Smoothbeam
treat?
Both inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesions have been successfully
treated. The laser has been used on the back, face and neck areas
and could be used anywhere you might have acne. Acne on the back
is resistant to many existing therapies.
How does Smoothbeam Acne Treatment
compare to existing treatments?
There are no unusual side-effects or adverse reaction to Smoothbeam
treatments. Drug therapy for the treatment of acne has a well-publicized
side-effect profile. Accutane, for instance, is known to cause birth
defects if one becomes pregnant while using the drug. It has also
been linked to severe emotional depression. Finally, other treatments
for acne cause severe drying and irritation of the skin for many
patients.
How many laser treatments are required?
A series of 4 treatments are recommended to get maximum results.
These are usually performed every 4 - 6 weeks. You will notice a
gradual reduction in the number and severity of acne lesions over
the next 3 weeks after your treatment. There will be a gradual improvement
in fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scarring over the next 6- 12 months.
What does Smoothbeam feel like?
Because of the Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD), many patients report
a "mild" or slight snapping and tingling sensation.
How long will the results last?
This a very new treatment, but studies have shown that acne improvement
is maintained for at least 6 months to 1 year after the last laser
treatment.
What precautions should I take?
Avoid sun exposure for 4 to 6 weeks before and after any laser treatment.
You should not have any chemical peels or microdermabrasion treatments
for one month prior to each treatment.
How will my face look after the treatment?
Risks are low with Smoothbeam. Immediately after the treatment,
there will be mild redness and swelling in the area treated. This
will subside in about two – twelve hours. Rarely the redness
may persist for several days. Some pigmentation changes can occur
with more aggressive treatment that will resolve itself over time.
Should I continue to use my acne
creams and medications?
Most over the counter and prescription creams and medications can
be continued during the treatment. You should stop using any Retin
a containing products prior to laser treatments.
How much will it cost?
During the consultation you will be given a firm estimate. Multiple
areas are eligible for discounts. Our normal charge for the full
face is $1500 for 4 treatments.
Is this treatment covered by insurance?
Most insurance companies do not cover cosmetic procedures.
Tissue
Tightening with the Thermage Procedure |
| What
is the Thermage Procedure? |
|
The Thermage procedure was developed to help the signs of aging
skin. It works by tightening tissue. It is currently used for treating
periorbital (around the eye) wrinkles. The Thermage procedure is
also known as ThermaLift, Thermal Lifting, Therma Plasty, and Thermoplastic
contouring. The Thermage technology is being studied for other aesthetic
uses on the face.
The ThermaCool produces heat energy in the deeper layers of skin
where it “tightens” the collagen already present in
the skin and then goes on to stimulate new collagen growth. At
the
same time, the ThermaCool cools the surface of the skin so it is
completely unaffected by the energy (heat) and only the deeper
layers
are affected.
This heat causes a wound healing response resulting in the development
of new collagen.
The end result is tighter, firmer skin. It’s
amazing to be able to treat from the outside and get the improvement
on the inside without anything showing on the surface. Nothing,
that is, until those improvements tighten and lift the skin.
The
treatment session takes about 40 minutes. ThermaCool delivers
the radio-frequency energy through a small contact tip. The delivery
of energy takes about 6 seconds per area and consists of 3 phases:
First, the skin is cooled; next, energy is delivered, and finally
the area is cooled once more. Patients leave the office looking
and feeling normal. There are no restrictions in activity afterwards.
And the energy is unaffected by skin pigment, so dark or light
skin
can be treated. Results are achieved as early as one month, or
on average, 3 to 4 months.
| What
does a Thermage Procedure feel like? |
Each time treatment is delivered there is an immediate cool sensation,
followed by a brief hot sensation, followed by a cool sensation. An
anesthetic cream applied one hour before the procedure numbs the surface
of the skin to help make the treatment more comfortable. Your physician
may offer additional measures to increase your comfort.
| How
long will the Thermage Procedure take? |
Depending on the size of the area treated, the procedure itself may
take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour. Your physician may require
that you arrive an hour before your procedure for administration of
an anesthetic cream.
When can I return to my normal activities?
You may return to your normal activities immediately, as there is
usually no "downtime". Minimal redness is seen in some
patients but it usually disappears shortly after treatment. Heat-related
complications can occur but are uncommon. There is no special care
needed after treatment. As a part of good skin care, sunscreen is
recommended.
When will I notice results?
Some patients notice the results soon after the treatment, although
in most patients they will appear gradually over 2 to 6 months.
How many treatments will I need?
In a large clinical trial, all patients were treated in a single
treatment session with good results. New studies in process are
evaluating whether repeat treatments provide better, faster, more
consistent results.
How long with the effects last?
A recently completed study demonstrates continued improvements for
at least 6 months after a single treatment session with the ThermaCool
TC system.
How safe is it?
It is very safe. Although this is a relatively new treatment and
a new technology, the number of adverse effects has been small.
How does the Thermage Procedure change
your skin?
In typical aging skin there is diminished collagen density and a
thinning epidermis (top layer of skin). Skin biopsies four months
after the Thermage Procedure show there is new and denser collagen
and an appreciable increase in the thickness of the epidermis
Tattoo Removal |
|
| Can
All Tattoos Be Removed Completely? |
|
No. Not all tattoos can be removed entirely. It is dependant upon
the colors in the tattoo and the pigments used to apply the tattoo.
In general, multicolored tattoos are more difficult to remove. Blues
and greens are also more difficult and may require substantially
more
sessions to provide a good result. Also, fresh tattoos are more difficult
to remove than older ones. Doctor's can't predict how quickly or
completely
a tattoo can be removed, because they don't know which of the one
hundred tattoo inks available were used.
| How
do Lasers remove tattoos? |
|
As mentioned above, not all tattoos are created equal. Small tattoos
with black only pigment may be removed in 2 to 4 sessions while
a
tattoo with blues and greens may take as many as 14 to 16 sessions
to produce and acceptable result.
| How
Many Sessions Will it Take to Remove my Tattoo? |
|
As mentioned above, not all tattoos are created equal. Small tattoos
with black only pigment may be removed in 2 to 4 sessions while
a
tattoo with blues and greens may take as many as 14 to 16 sessions
to produce and acceptable result. 6 to 8 week intervals between
sessions
are required to allow pigment residue to be absorbed by the body.
| Is
it Painful to Remove a Tattoo? |
|
Laser treatment can cause a stinging or burning sensation. Many say
it feels like snapping a rubber band on the skin. With topical anesthetic,
this sensation is significantly reduced.
Pinpoint bleeding is sometimes associated with the procedure. Over
the next several weeks the body scavanger cells remove pigment residue.
The tattoo will continue to lighten over the next one to two months.
| What
Type Of Care Does the Treated Area Require? |
|
Usually there is blistering like a sunburn associated with the treatment.
A Copper Peptide ointment and dressing will be applied to the area.
The treated area should be kept clean along with regular application
of the ointment. A shower can be taken the next day, but the treated
area should not be scrubbed.
| What
are the side effects? |
|
Side effects of laser procedures are generally few but may include
hyperpigmentation, or darkening of the skin at the treatment site,
and hypopigmentation, where the skin in the treated area is lighter
than the surrounding skin. Other possible side effects include infection
at the treatment site, local allergic reaction causing itching or
hives, lack of complete pigment removal, and a 5 persent chance of
mild texture changes or a slight risk of permanent scarring. The laser
we use is associated with the fewest adverse effects and is the most
effective laser system on the market today for removing tattoos.

Fotofacial |
| What
is FotoFacial Skin Rejuvenation? |
|
FotoFacialT Treatments are full face, neck and/or chest treatments
using pulses of visible light that effectively improve facial redness
and flushing as well as the visible signs of sun damage and aging.
FotoFacialT Treatments were developed and first introduced by Board-certified
dermatologist, Patrick Bitter Jr. MD as a non invasive method of photo-rejuvenation
to improve the appearance of the skin with no downtime. A non-laser
medical device (MultiLightT and VasculightT from ESC medical) are
used to deliver a series of gentle pulses of light to the skin. Specific
settings are selected for each treatment for optimal results. A series
of five or more treatments are performed at three week intervals.
The benefits of FotoFacialT Treatments are consistent, visible improvement
in the skin with no downtime, little discomfort and minimal risk.
With FotoFacialT Treatments the embarrassing redness and flushing
of rosacea can be greatly reduced and sun damaged, aging skin can
be dramatically improved.
| Why
should I go to Perfect Skin for my fotofacial
treatments? |
|
We get the best possible results. Our fotofacial treatments take longer (1-2
hours each) because we do multiple passes with different settings to specifically
target the skin conditions you want improved. After your fotofacial treatment
we use the VersaPulse C aesthetic laser to go over any resistant redness, spider
veins, or pigmented lesions you may have. This combination results in much greater
improvement in your skin with each session.
| What
are the indications for FotoFacialT Treatments? |
|
- Treatments effectively reduce redness and flushing.
- Sun damage (Photo-aging). Treatments reduce fine wrinkling,
freckling and irregular pigmentation. FotoFacialTM Treatments
are used for skin photo rejuvenation reduce fine wrinkling, freckling
and irregular pigmentation.
- Treatments smooth skin and reduce pores.
- Treatments reduce irregular pigment and even skin tone.
- Rosacea - FotoFacialTM Treatments reduce the overall redness,
flushing and dilated capillaries and may improve the breakouts
of this common chronic facial condition.
| Can
FotoFacial help with Rosacea? |
|
Rosacea - FotoFacialT Treatments reduce the overall redness, flushing
and dilated capillaries and may improve the breakouts of this common
chronic facial condition.
What
are the advantages of FotoFacial treatments
over chemical peels and micro-dermabrasion? |
|
Chemical peels, laser resurfacing and micro-dermabrasion ( eg. Power
Peels) are ineffective in reducing redness and flushing or dilated
capillaries. Prior to FotoFacialTM Treatments there was
no effective treatment for flushing or facial and neck redness. With
FotoFacialTM Treatments there is little discomfort and
no downtime or disruptions of normal activities. The end result of
FotoFacialTM Treatments is smoother, healthier and younger-appearing
skin. FotoFacialTM Treatments are also be used in conjunction
with chemical peeling or micro-dermabrasion to enhance the results
of these procedures.
| Can
FotoFacial be used with other treatment? |
|
FotoFacial treatments are also be used in conjunction with chemical
peeling or micro-dermabrasion and Verapulse Laser to enhance the results
of these procedures.
| What
areas can be treated? |
|
FotoFacialTM Treatments can be used on any part of the
skin. They are especially effective for improving the appearance
of the face, neck and chest.
What results can I expect?
You can expect to see a gradual decrease in overall redness, flushing
and dilated capillaries. People with visible aging from the sun
can expect to see their skin become smoother with a decrease in
fine wrinkles, reduction in pore size and fading of sun spots. Many
people with rosacea see an improvement in breakouts and are able
to decrease or discontinue their medications.
What is a FotoFacialTM
Treatment like?
Each treatment takes approximately 1 to 2 hours. A mild amount of
discomfort can be expected. Many patients prefer to use FotoFacialTM
Anesthetic Cream available at our office. When FotoFacialTM
Anesthetic Cream is used 60 minutes before treatment there is almost
no discomfort. There is no discomfort after treatments. Immediately
following a treatment, the skin may appear red and flushed and tiny
capillaries may appear more visible. Brown spots generally appear
darker. All of these changes gradually fade over a period of hours
to a few days.
How soon will I see results?
After your first treatment, your skin will feel smoother and will
have a more even tone. These improvements are gradual and will be
more visible after each treatment. Five treatments are performed
for optimal results. Some patients will benefit from an additional
treatment.
Who are the best candidates
for FotoFacialTM Treatments?
The best candidates for FotoFacialTM Treatments are:
- People who suffer from rosacea and experience flushing and
redness of their skin.
- People with early aging changes and sun damage who desire
healthier more youthful appearing skin.
- People who don't want to take the time off to heal from laser
resurfacing or chemical peels.
- Active people who don't want to interfere with social or outdoor
activities.
PhotoDynaminic
Skin Rejuvenation |
|
| What
Is Photodynamic therapy? |
|
Photodynamic therapy involves the use of a photosensitizing agent
(Aminolevulinic Acid, brand name: Levulan Kerastick(TM) ) that is
applied to sun-damaged or pre-cancerous areas of the skin, and is
allowed to penetrate for about 1 hour or longer. The treated area
is then exposed to IPL or laser light. The reaction of the light
and sensitized skin leads to a sunburn-like effect that exfoliates
the superficial damaged layers of the skin. The process takes about 5-7 days
to heal resulting in mild to moderate skin rejuvenation and improvement or
resolution of the pre-cancerous growths. This process if FDA approved for treatment
of pre-cancerous growths when the sensitizer is pre-applied for 14-18 hours,
however, we have found that more practical shorter incubation are just as effective.
The cosmetic indication of photodynamic therapy, or any other indication including
treatment of skin cancer, is considered an 'off-label use' of this technique.
Who should have this
treatment?
This is the ideal treatment for moderate to
severely sun-damaged skin. If you have pre-cancerous
skin lesions (AK's) or if you have had them treated
in the past this is an excellent way to improve your
skin. Photodynamic therapy has been shown to be extremely
effective in treating mild to severe cystic acne. Results
have been comparable to those seen with accutane.
Who should not have
this treatment?
You should not receive this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to
aminolevulinic acid or porphyrins, if you have porphyria, lupus or skin that
is unusually sensitive to sun, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you
take deferoxamine (an iron chelator), hydrochlorothiazide, or sulfa products.
What are the side
effects?
The skin will turn red and swollen in the following 3-7 days. Some crusting may
be noted. There should be some discomfort, but no significant pain. After 1 week,
there might be some residual redness that will subside after a few days and can
be covered with make up.
MicroDermabrasion |
|
| How
is the procedure done? |
|
icrodermabrasion can be successfully used on the face, neck, and
chest arms more rarely on the knees, elbows, arms and hands. After
cleansing your treatment area, the Aesthetician with use a jet of
sterile micro-crystals to gently exfoliate the your skin without
the use of anesthesia. The Aesthetician will adjust the pressure
for your skin and move the Microdermabrasion machine's hand piece
across the treatment area to deliver a precise stream of crystals
onto the skin's surface; the scale-like, lifeless epidermal cells
and the crystals are then suctioned back into the same hand piece
to reveal a fresh, invigorated skin surface. After your treatment,
the Aesthetician may choose to do one of several different type
of chemicals peel depending on your skin condition.
Does Microdermabrasion hurt?
Not really. Microdermabrasion may sting a little around the eye
area. Our Aesthetician will normallyincrease the treatment strength
each session to increase the penetration to the skin. Your skin
may feel a little hot and appear a little pink immediately following
your treatment. You should tell your Aesthetician immediately if
your treatment is too uncomfortable; they can turn down the controls
if the suction or level of the "blast" is too strong
for you.
How do I prepare for this
procedure?
There really is no preparation for Microdermabrasion. We do recommend
that you avoid any substance (Retin A, Acid Peels, heavy exfoliation,
etc.) and any situation (Sun Burn, etc.) that will leave your skin
sensitive on the day of treatment.
How long does the procedure
take and how many will I need?
Microdermabrasion is a quick procedure that usually takes between
30 and 60 minutes. We ecommend you start with 4-8 sessions, one
every two to three weeks. Following your initial treatment your
skin maintenance program should include an additional treatment
every 1-3 months. Most people should see dramatic improvements
after just a few treatments, but stick with it for the best results!
Severe
skin problems, such as deep acne scars and dark spots will take
several treatments before any improvement is noticeable.
Can I combine Microdermabrasion
with another procedure?
Yes. Microdermabrasion is the perfect compliment to other procedures
including Botox, Collagen, and Laser Skin Resurfacing.
Botox
How Does Botox Work?
Botox injections work to remove wrinkles by relaxing the surrounding facial
muscles. Once the muscles have relaxed, the wrinkles disappear. The muscles
are essentially
paralyzed - patients will not be able to frown after having their forehead
and frown lines treated. A Botox injection will take approximately three
to five days to take effect and will last three to six months.
Botox Candidates
Candidates for Botox injections include those patients who show early signs
of aging and those who are not good candidates for facial plastic surgery.
Botox Patients who are
not good candidates for Botox include:
- Pregnant or nursing women
- Patients taking any other medications or supplements - this
may increase bruising or bleeding
- Patients who are allergic to Botulinum Toxin Type A
- Patients who have a history of botulism poisoning - antibodies
in the blood may make
the injections less effective
