Chemical Peels by Physician's Choice
PCA Peel®
This is a safe and highly effective tx that has no dowtime. This light to medium peel formula is proven to effectively treat acne, control oil, smooth fine lines and also help to inhibit the pigment production providing a more even skin tone. Pca peel is available in the following three formulas:

PCA Peel HQ Free (non-resorcinol)
This peel is for more sensitive skin types or those allergic to hydroquinone. This peel will help unclog the pores eliminate acne and rejuvenate the skin.

PCA Peel® with Hydroquinone (non-resorcinol)
This formula is for those who want even skin tone and have no sensitivity to hydroquinone. It will correct melasma, sun damage and all pigment discolorations of any kind. It will inhibit active acne and correct post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (brown-spotting) from acne. PCA Peel® w/HQ can also be used to treat the neck and chest for sun damage.

PCA Peel® with Hydroquinone and Resorcinol
This peel is the most potent version of PCA Peel®. It is a deeper peel that will provide more exfoliation for oilier, thicker, resilient skin types. It is for extreme sun damaged skin and can also be used to treat the hands and arms. It is also excellent for those with active/cystic acne and asphyxiated skin (dry on the surface, oily underneath).

Ultra Peel™ I and II
Ultra Peel™ treatments are appropriate for all skin types, conditions and sensitivities. These treatments are especially ideal for sensitive skin, as they produce a minimal stinging sensation. Ultra Peel™ treatments will effectively treat acne, pigment disorders, aging skin, smoker’s skin and sun damaged skin.

For more dramatic results, both Ultra Peel™ I and II can be used in conjunction with microdermabrasion treatments. Ultra Peel™ II can be used alone or on top of any other Physician’s Choice™ peel, producing a lightening, tightening and brightening effect. It is a cream containing natural hormones and vitamins to provide freshening and moisturizing properties to aging skin. These natural hormones make this peel great for males, as it helps to counterbalance testosterone levels that create frequent break-outs during teenage years.

Moderate to aggressive exfoliation will be experienced, depending on the number of layers of Ultra Peel™ I. Overall, the final result will be plump and hydrated-looking skin.

Supra Peel™
The Supra Peel™ is designed for extremely sensitive and delicate skin, as there is little to no irritation or burning at the time of application. It is a moisturizing treatment due to the natural hormone and vitamin content, thus making it another great choice for aging, dehydrated and menopausal skin. Supra Peel™ contains anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and pore-refining properties, as well as de-sensitizing agents; therefore, it is a great foundation for treating sensitive acne and rosacea. Hyperpigmentation, melasma and sun damaged skin conditions will also benefit from the lightening capabilities of Supra Peel™. There is absolutely no downtime, little to no exfoliation and the end result is an immediate tightening and brightening of the skin.

Pumpkin Peel Beta-C Mask Treatment
The Physician’s Choice™ Pumpkin Peel Beta-C Mask Treatment is good for anyone at any age. It is a powerful antioxidant keratolytic treatment that can serve as an alternate between other peels and therapeutic treatments. Its main source of nutrition, pumpkin, offers more than 100 benefical components, including the highest concentration of natural Vitamins A, C and beta-carotene.

The Pumpkin Peel has simultaneous actions: it exfoliates while introducing vitamins, enzymes and nutrients into the skin. It is an excellent treatment for smokers as it stimulates circulation, promotes healing and provides vitamin nutrition. As with all other PCA chemical peels there is no downtime. In fact, skin will be glowing and extremely healthy looking following the treatment.

Oxygenating Facial Trio
The Oxygenating Facial is an antioxidant therapy to ameliorate free radical damage. Oxidative damage is one of the more significant contributions to the aging process. The Oxy Facial Trio helps rejuvenate sluggish, tired skin due to toxins, pollutants, allergens, improper diet, solar damage, smoking and aging. Acneic conditions benefit greatly. This treatment is recommended between peel treatments when peeling is not indicated.

There are no stinging or irritating side effects. However, a rosy flush and rapid warm sensation to the skin is normal. Oxygenating treatments leave the skin radiating with a healthy look that will last seven to ten days, which makes it ideal one or two days before a special event.

Most Commonly Askes Questions

Q. How much downtime is expected with a peel?
A. There is no downtime whatsoever with Physician’s Choice™ chemical peels. You can actually receive a peel on your lunch hour and return to work.

Q.When will I start "peelings", for how long and how much?
A. Everyone’s experience will be different. However, on an average, you will see flaking by day two or three following the treatment. It is possible to see flaking for up to five or six days. With all Physician’s Choice™ peels, only light to medium exfoliation will be experienced.

Q. How irritating is a peel?
A. PCA peels are only slightly irritating. You may experience mild burning or stinging, which is transient.

Q. What is the difference between the three formulas of the PCA Peel®?
A. The PCA Peel® HQ Free is for sensitive skin types, ethnic skin, those allergic to hydroquinone or not looking to lighten the skin. The PCA Peel® w/HQ has a stronger lightening ability; it will help even out the skin tone. The PCA Peel® w/ HQ and Resorcinol is for most resilient skin types and will provide more exfolitation. This formula is great for someone who has reached a plateau with monthly treatments and needs a more aggressive treatment.

Q. What is the difference between the PCA Peel® versus the Ultra Peel™
A. The Ultra Peel™ is less sensitizing than the PCA Peel® due to the complexity of the formula. The PCA Peel® has more of a drying effect and the Ultra Peel™ has a more moisturizing effect. The PCA Peel® formulas have more instant lightening ability, whereas, the Ultra Peel™ lightening process is more gradual.

Q. Why would Ultra Peel™ II be applied, and when?
A. Ultra Peel™ II will ensure more flaking and peeling post-treatment. It can be applied after any Physician’s Choice™ treatment or it can be very mild treatment used alone.

Q. What is resorcinol? Why use the PCA Peel® w/HQ & Resorcinol and who is an appropriate candidate?
A. Resorcinol is an antiseptic, antifungal, astrigent and flaking agent. The PCA Peel® w/HQ and Resorcinol is excellent on active acne, smoker’s skin, oily, thick, resilient skin and hand and arm treatments.

Q. What peels are recommended for use in conjunction with microdermabrasion?
A. There are different ways to enhance your results by using Physician’s Choice™ chemical peels with microdermabrasion. One method: apply Ultra Peel™ I four days before a microdermabrasion treatment. Following the microdermabrasion treatment apply Ultra Peel™ II; or all in the same day administer microdermabrasion then apply Ultra Peel™ I and II; or do microdermabrasion then apply Ultra Peel™ I, Hemoglobe-I (Step 2 from the Oxy Trio) and then Ultra Peel™ II.

Q. What skin type or condition will benefit most from the Pumpkin Peel; what results are expected?
A. The Pumpkin Peel is best used for asphyxiated skin or acne. It provides nutrient input and will brighten the skin. It’s also great on very sun damaged skin that has lumps and bumps.

Q. Which peels can be used with the Oxy Trio?
A. The PCA Peel®, Ultra Peel™ I and II, or Supra Peel™ can all be used in conjunction with the Oxy Trio, however, not all at the same time.

Q. Can a person who is in the sun a lot receive a peel?
A. Yes, only if they are compliant with using sunscreen protection. If you are getting peels to lighten the skin, pHaze 13 Light N’Block® Pigment Cream (SPF 25+) is ideal to reduce any chance of further hyperpigmentation.

Q. What peels can be used on someone who frequently works out?
A. Someone who frequently works out can have any peel but must wait 48 hours after the treatment to exercise. If you don’t want to wait, the Non-Burning Facial Peel is a great choice. This treatment uses our Ultra Peel™ II which is an acid-free, time-released retinol cream. It has a delayed flaking action that creates no irritation or downtime and leaves the skin glowing and hydrated.

Q. My skin is very thin. Why would I want to peel? Wouldn’t that make my skin thinner?
A. If your skin is dry and thin, often there is a buildup of dead cells that actually keeps your home care products from penetrating. Having an Ultra Peel™ treatment will remove the surface buildup, hydrate the skin and give it a more plump, "thicker" appearance. The use of Vitamin C products in the treatment, as well as in your home care program, will help to build the collagen in your skin, thus making it stronger and more durable.

Q. Can pregnant or lactating women receive a peel?
A. No. We recommend only the Oxygenating Facial Trio for pregnant or lactating women.

Q. Are there any treatments that are good for rosacea?
A. We have a treatment designed specifically for rosacea that incorporates products from from our Pumpkin Peel, Oxgenating Trio and Supra Peel™. It helps to unclog the pores, smooth the surface of the skin and promote healing. This treatment could be don as often as every two weeks.

Q. Can someone using Retin-A® or Accutane® have any Physician’s Choice™ treatments?
A. We generally recommend that Retin-A® use be stopped five days prior to a peel and five days post treatment because of potential irritation and uneven peel penetration. Accutane® users tend to have very dry and sensitive skin and need to be treated only with peels that are appropriate for their skin type. We have found that the Physician’s Choice™ peel solutions are Accutane® friendly. However, your skin care specialist should always be made aware of any Retin-A® or Accutane® use.

Q. I thought TCA was very aggressive and required a week at home for recovery. Why is this not true of your Ultra Peel™ that is 10% TCA?
A. Ultra Peel™ is effective because of its formulation, but works in a way that does not traumatize the skin like traditional, straight TCA peels. As with all other Physician’s Choice™ peels, there is no downtime. Following an Ultra Peel™, the skin is glowing and hydrated; exfoliation occurs more as flaking.

Q. What is the difference between PCA and glycolic peels?
A. Glycolic acid will dehydrate skin and make pores larger after extended use. PCA uses lactic and citric acids which are skin-friendly because they are natural constituents of your skin. Physician’s Choice™ peels are unique because they are moisturizing and hydrating and leave your skin fresh, soft and supple, the way it wants to be!

Post-Treament Tips
After receiving your chemical peel, you may experience some light flaking in a few localized areas for up to five days and slight redness for one to twelve hours. Although you may or may not actually "peel" during the first one or two treatments, you will probably experience slight exfoliation and your skin will feel tight and pulled.

Patients should always follow the Home Care Regimen sheet provided by their technician, but the following post-treatment tips are also recommended to maximize the benefits to your skin:

- Do not apply any medications following treatment not recommended by your technician, including AHA products.
- It is ideal to let the skin stabilize and rest overnight, but makeup can be applied following the treatment if absolutely necessary.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat. Use your pHaze 6+ Hydrator Plus (SPF 15) or pHaze 7 Protecting Hydrator (SPF 15), pHaze 13 Light N’ Block® Pigment Cream (SPF 25+) or pHaze 8 Face and Body Hydrator (SPF 15) for daily sunscreen protection.
- Do no pick at or pull on any loosening or exfoliating skin. This could potentially cause hyperpigmentation.
- Home use of Pigment Gel® is recommended twice a day to continue lightening hyperpigmented areas.
- Do NOT go to a tanning booth for a least three weeks before or after a treatment.
- Discontinue the use of Retin-A®/Renova® or Differin® for seven days after treatment.
- Do not have electrolysis, collagen injections, facial waxing or use depilatories for approximately five days after the treatment.
- Do not schedule another treatment until your technician advises you to do so.

For Two Days Following:
- Do not apply ice or water to the treated areas.
- Do not put the face directly into a hot shower spray. Do not use Jacuzzis, steam rooms or saunas.
- Do not go swimming or participate in activities that would cause excessive perspiration.
- Do not use Buff-Puff’s or other means of mechanical exfoliation.
- Do not direct a hair dryer onto the treated area.
- Stay cool! Getting heated internally can cause hyperpigmentation.
