Birthmarks - Port Wine Stains and Pigmented Birthmarks
Port Wine Stains and Vascular Lesions
The Gemini laser makes the difference. Red ( vascular) birthmarks are made
up of lots of tiny blood vessels such as Port Wine Stains. These vary greatly in size and occur
on different parts of the body with facial birthmarks causing the most
concern to patients. The Gemini laser has improved the
treatment of these birthmarks.
Vascular birthmarks are effectively treated with the Gemini Laser System. The laser passes light through the skin where the light is absorbed
by the red vessels heating them up. The heat causes the vessels to shrink
and disappear and the birthmark to fade. Multiple treatments may be required.
The skin is protected by us of a special chilled tip attached to the
handpiece as well as the prior application of a gel to the skin. During
treatment a stinging sensation is felt, but this can be lessened with
the use of an anaesthetic cream if necessary. After treatment the skin
is generally blotchy and some areas of redness and swelling may be
noted.
